Commissioners Court Approves Healthcare Funding for At-Risk and Indigent

(McKINNEY, Texas) – The Collin County Commissioners Court, based on the recommendations of the County Health Care Advisory Board, has approved funding for 2009 to nine non-profit agencies providing health care services to county residents in need. The Court approved $199,954.94 to:

• Allen Community Outreach, which provides visual screening and glasses for children and prescription assistance for eligible low income residents, for $11,400;
• The Assistance Center of Collin County, which provides prescription assistance for eligible low income residents, for $7898.50;
• The Bridge Breast Network, which provides limited surgical procedures for low income uninsured county residents diagnosed with breast cancer, for $37,500;
• Collin County Adult Clinic, which provides limited primary care to eligible uninsured adult residents, for $40,005;
• Collin County Committee on Aging, which provides evening and weekend meals to senior residents in rural areas through their Meals on Wheels program, for $45,001.44;
• Community LifeLine of McKinney, which provides prescription assistance for eligible low income residents, for $3,700;
• Frisco Family Services, which provides prescription assistance for eligible low income residents, for $3,700;
• Geriatric Wellness Center of Collin County, which provides post hospitalization assistance and risk factor monitoring for seniors, for $29,750;
• Plano Children's Medical Clinic, which provides sick child visits for eligible low income children, for $21,000.

These agencies were chosen for funding through a competitive application process with the Collin County Health Care Foundation, who gave preference to organizations that addressed the health and well-being of county citizens who are U.S. citizens and legal residents, who target at-risk, underserved or vulnerable populations and who also demonstrate new solutions to community health care problems. These agencies must also show that matching funds, either cash or in-kind, are being secured, that services are or will be provided in a cost-effective manner and that sound business plans are in place for program sustainability.
