Passport fair set for March 10 at county courthouse
The District Clerk’s Office is hosting a special passport event at their McKinney office on Saturday, March 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., to provide passport information to U.S. citizens and to accept passport applications. The clerks are joining the Department of State in celebrating Passport Day in the USA 2012, a national passport acceptance and outreach event.
District Clerk Andrea S. Thompson said the Saturday passport fair is a great time to renew or get a new passport for any planned summer travel.
"Applying now can really help avoid any last-minute rush or worry over getting your passports for this summer," she said. "And the Saturday hours mean parents don’t have to take the kids out of school to apply."
U.S. citizens must present a valid passport book when entering or re-entering the United States by air. U.S. citizens entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land borders and sea ports of entry must present a passport book, passport card, or other travel documents approved by the U.S. government.
Information on the cost and how to apply for a U.S. passport is available at travel.state.gov. U.S. citizens may also obtain passport information by phone, in English and Spanish, by calling the National Passport Information Center toll-free at 1-877-487-2778.
In other news at the District Clerk’s office, Thompson has started an Express File Check Out lane from 8:15-9:15 each morning for local attorneys doing business in the courthouse. What’s that mean for citizens? It also keeps the other service windows in the office flowing smoother so you don’t have to wait as long to speak to a clerk.
