Welcome
Aboard!
And welcome back to county officials
Six new county officials have taken the oath of office in Collin
County since the first of the year, with five more incumbents
returning to their elected posts. Just in case you’re unfamiliar
with these folks, we thought we’d introduce – and
re-introduce – them to county residents.
First off, there are five newly elected officials and a recent
gubernatorial appointee who have taken office here since January
1.
In Commissioners Court, Kathy
Ward and Matt
Shaheen assume their posts representing Precincts 4 and
1, respectively. Ms. Ward, appointed to fill the Precinct 4
seat after the death of Jack Hatchell last summer, was elected
in November to fill the remaining two years for Precinct 4.
Mr. Shaheen was elected to a 4-year term for Precinct 1 post
in November. Maps of Commissioners Court precincts are available
here.
In state District Courts, we have two new judges on the bench. Suzanne
Wooten is the new judge over the 380th District Court,
serving a 4-year term. Also, Jill
R. Willis presides over the newly created 429th District
Court. Governor Rick Perry appointed Judge Willis to the bench
in the weeks before the court officially came into existence
on Jan. 1, and she will be required to run for office in the
2010 general elections. Both courts are housed at the County
Courthouse, 2100 Bloomdale Road, in McKinney.
We also have two newly elected constables in
the county, Paul
Elkins and Chuck
Presley, Sr. Constable Elkins was elected to the Precinct
1 office in November after longtime Constable Jerry
Kunkle chose retirement over politics. Likewise, Constable
Presley was elected to office in Precinct 3 after longtime
Constable Bob
Bell retired.
Finally, we have five incumbents who were
re-elected to 4-year terms here in Collin County:
- Judge Robert
Dry, Jr., 199th District Court
- Judge Mark
Rusch, 401st District Court
- Judge Chris
Oldner, 416th District Court
- County Commissioner Joe
Jaynes, Precinct 3
- Johnny
Lewis, Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3-1
