Hwy 75-380 Interchange Undergoes Change
One of the busiest intersections in Collin County is
about to get a little busier when the Texas Department of Transportation
begins work on two-year, $25.6 million overhaul of the U.S. 75-U.S. 380
interchange smack dab in the middle of McKinney.
With this badly needed roadway reconstruction and widening, drivers may
want to take heed that lane closings and delays will be unavoidable for
the two-year project.
The 75-380 project involves adding two lanes each for north- and southbound
traffic on U.S. 75 for a short distance in preparation of future road
expansion plans. Also, the project will include lengthening entrance and
exit ramps and adding an extra lane to service roads for both sides of
the highway to handle increased traffic.
The project will unfold in three phases, with a timeline estimate based
on a favorable number of good-weather days for construction
crews:
- Phase One: Southbound lanes on U.S. 75, November through March
2009;
- Phase Two: Southbound U.S. 75 frontage road and continued construction
on the U.S. 75 freeway lanes, March 2009-February 2010;
- Phase Three: Northbound U.S. 75 frontage road, U.S. 380 under
U.S. 75, and finish work on U.S. 75 main lanes, February-November 2010.
Part of the project also includes moving entrance and exit frontage ramps
further back from the U.S. 380 interchange to provide increased capacity.
