Public Works to begin Adopt-a-Road program

Collin County's Public Works Department is starting up an Adopt-A-County-Road program to cut down on litter and debris, and we're looking for scout troops, community service organizations, church groups, co-workers — even informal gatherings of caring neighbors — who can lend a hand in keeping our roadways clear of unsightly trash.

The program provides an opportunity for civic groups of all types to work with local government and to make a positive statement about where they live and work. It's a hands-on way to improve the quality of the community and the environment, helps maintain safe and clean roadways — and is a great way to get public recognition for your good works.

Here's how it works:

Volunteer Groups …

  • Have no costs involved in the project, which asks for trash runs from one to four times a year;
  • Sign a "hold harmless" agreement with the county;
  • Get signs designating the section of roadway that they've adopted to keep clean

The County …

  • Provides equipment for cleanups, like trash bags, gloves, litter "pix stiks", road-crew warning signs, safety vests and a first-aid kit;
  • Hauls off the bagged trash and debris once you're done

If you and your group are interested in the program, please contact Tammi Koch at 972-548-3719 for more information.
