COUNTY BURN BAN LIFTED

County authorities lifted an outdoor burn ban for unincorporated areas on Aug. 21, 2008, after recent heavy rains dramatically reduced chances of grass fires in this corner of North Texas. The ban, which went into effect July 22, ended after mid-August rains of up to 8 inches in some areas of the county quenched parched landscapes. It was the second ban issued this year by the county. The first lasted from late January through March. Both times, the Texas Forest Service upgraded the county’s rating on the Drought Index, as our area fast approached extreme fire danger conditions. In June and July, officials here noted an increase in grass fires in rural areas. The ban prohibited all outdoor burning until further notice. For more information on outdoor burning restrictions, call 972-548-5576 during business hours, or see our page on Outdoor Burning.
