As one of the fastest growing counties in the state
and nation, Collin County is making infrastructural enhancements to accommodate
the increasing population and road traffic. According to the North Central
Texas Council of Governments, the population of Collin County increased
at a rate of 5.64% during 2003, which brings the current population of
the County to be over 615,000 residents. As the County continues to grow,
an increasing number of local residents will travel to employment sites
within Collin County and thus place a great burden on the existing transportation
system. Consequently, a cooperative and comprehensive solution to alleviate
the existing and projected mobility problems is required.
Over the last few years, several major projects have been initiated by
various entities, including the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT),
the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) and the Dallas Area Rapid Transit
(DART). Many projects are currently underway while others are still in
the planning stages. The following is a list of projects which are considered
